LIN6-8635 : Missing information on SDK Environment

Created: Oct 28, 2014    Updated: Dec 3, 2018
Resolved Date: Nov 14, 2014
Found In Version: 6.0.0.11
Fix Version: 6.0.0.13
Severity: Standard
Applicable for: Wind River Linux 6
Component/s: Docs

Description

I was reviewing the section on "Creating a Sample Application" on page 162 of the Wind River Linux User's Guide.

It instructs the reader to refer to the section on exporting the SDK in order to export the SDK, install it, and source the environment.

However, the Export the SDK section assumes that the environment is automatically sourced after the install is complete. It doesn't explicitly tell the user how to source an environment of an SDK that is installed already.

I believe this is a grave omission as there are at least 4 possible viable options to choose from in the SDK directory. It took me a minute or 2 and some digging around with prior knowledge to ascertain the answer.

I also feel strongly that this information on sourcing the appropriate shell script needs to be listed explicitly as a step in "Creating a Sample Application" and not hidden in the "Export the SDK" section. For the reason that these 2 tasks may be done by 2 different types of customers: the former by an application developer and the latter by the buildmaster/platform developer.

Steps to Reproduce

Follow the instructions in "Creating a Sample Application" in the Wind River Linux User' Guide.
