SCP8-220 : initramfs: does not handle rootfs mode (rw or ro)

Created: May 19, 2016    Updated: Mar 6, 2019
Resolved Date: Feb 19, 2019
Found In Version: 8.0.0.6
Severity: Standard
Applicable for: Wind River Linux 8
Component/s: Userspace

Description

In general, a Linux rootfs can be either read-only or read-write. For SCP8, there are features that need to be writable, which are typically placed in the rootfs. These features, such as logging, are very basic from a security perspective, so to support those features, SCP8 only supports a writable rootfs. If the user specifies a read-only rootfs, the system will not function correctly: may not boot at all, and may not operate as expected if it does boot.

Workaround

Use a writable rootfs.
