The current kernel version is 6.1.x, but makedumpfile(1.7.2) only supports kernel version from KERNEL_VERSION(2, 6, 15) to KERNEL_VERSION(6, 0, 1).
makedumpfile.h
#define KERNEL_VERSION(x,y,z) (((x) << KVER_MAJ_SHIFT) | ((y) << KVER_MIN_SHIFT) | (z))
#define OLDEST_VERSION KERNEL_VERSION(2, 6, 15) /* linux-2.6.15 */
#define LATEST_VERSION KERNEL_VERSION(6, 0, 1) /* linux-6.0.1 */
makedumpfile.c
version = KERNEL_VERSION(maj, min, rel);
if ((version < OLDEST_VERSION) || (LATEST_VERSION < version)) {
MSG("The kernel version is not supported.\n");
MSG("The makedumpfile operation may be incomplete.\n");
}
When running makedumpfile we will encounter the following warning:
$ makedumpfile -f --mem-usage /proc/kcore
The kernel version is not supported.
The makedumpfile operation may be incomplete.
