> General Description

• This is a Update Pack. This is not a stand-alone installation. You must install this Update Pack on a system where WR Linux 2.0 is already installed. Wind River Linux 2.0 Update Pack 4 (UP-4) fixes known problems and updates your existing installation to Wind River Linux 2.0.4.

> New Features added

• The following user space packages have been added to Wind River Linux 2.0 by installing Update Pack 4:
  • libssh2
  • m4
  • passwd
  • perl-Convert-ASN1
  • caching-nameserver
• Also, there is a change to allow versioning of user-space package patches.

> Defects

• Download and Install:
  • Everything on DVD_R128063.1-1-04.zip (Linux source update and Workbench 3.0.2 - both mandatory)
  • Any needed *_binaries_*.zip (pre-builts update - optional)

> About DVD_R128063.1-1-04.zip

• The DVD installs updated source code for Wind River Linux 2.0.
• The DVD also installs Wind River Workbench 3.0 SP-2, which updates your Wind River Workbench 3.0 or 3.0.1 install base to Workbench 3.0.2. 

             NOTE:  Both the Linux and Workbench Update/Service Packs must be installed and used together. 

> About the Pre-built RPMs in arch_binaries_lx20_up4_part*.zip Files

• The downloadable binaries on this page are pre-built RPMs, which are not included on the DVD.
• These are optional new versions, which replace the original pre-built RPMs and kernels.
• If you choose to install these pre-built binaries, they must be installed after installation of Wind River Linux 2.0 Update Pack 4, but before doing a build that will use the pre-built RPMs.
• During the upgrade to Update Pack 4 (as was also done by Service Pack 3), the existing pre-built binaries are all moved. This means that any builds that previously used the pre-built RPMs now make new RPMs from source.

             Existing RPM prebuilt binaries are moved to
             wrlinux-2.0/wrlinux/RPMS_backup/

             Existing kernel prebuilt binaries are moved to
             wrlinux-2.0/wrlinux/boards_backup/

             The new versions are downloaded into these directories and are available for all projects:
             wrlinux-2.0/wrlinux/RPMS
             wrlinux-2.0/wrlinux/boards

> Update Pack FAQs

• An Update Pack is an accumulation of patches and added features that have been tested together for compatibility.
• Previously released point patches and cumulative patches that were posted to Wind River Online Support are obsolete as standalone patches if the applicable defect is listed in the Defects or Description sections on this page.
• The highest-version Service or Update Pack includes the cumulative patches from all previous Service and Update Packs.
• The difference between Service Packs and Update Packs is that Update Packs fix defects and add new features, whereas, Service Packs only fix defects. If noted, your Customer License and Product Activation File may need an update to unlock new features added by an Update Pack. If the directions indicate new keys are needed, contact your Wind River representative or request the update online at http://www.windriver.com/support.
• Applying a Service or Update Pack provides more reliability and compatibility than applying point patches.

This Update Pack is only compatible with Wind River Linux 2.0 and cannot be applied to or used with any other version of Wind River Linux, i.e., do not apply to Wind River Linux 1.x or 3.x.x installations.

Installation Notes

Installation Notes

These instructions apply to the DVD_R128063.1-1-04.zip download.

Step 1 – Prepare

• Shut down all product processes, including any license servers.
• All applicable products and patches should be installed prior to applying this Update Pack. If you subsequently install more products from your initial product shipment, you should re-apply the Update Pack.
• If you have altered any Wind River-supplied files in your install tree (not a recommended practice), archive them manually prior to installing any updates as these files may be overwritten during the installation process.

Step 2 – Download

• Download the zip file to a temporary directory on your host machines.
• For this Update Pack, do not download or unzip the files into your installDir/updates directory.

Step 3 – Unzip

Note: The directory path may not contain spaces (do not use ../My Documents or ../My Desktop)

• On Windows (requires WinZip):
  • Right-click on the zip file
  • Select WinZip -> Extract to here

• On Linux or Solaris:
  • unzip *.zip

If you do not have unzip in your path, you can find it in installDir/setup/hostType/bin 

Step 4 – Install

• Go into the DVD directory created by unzipping the Update Pack (for example, C:\tmp\DVD_R128063.1-1-04 or /home/myuserid/DVD_R128063.1-1-04).
• Run the setup executable applicable to your host (Windows: setup.exe; Linux: setup_linux; Solaris: setup_solaris).
• Install all products that are check-marked by default.

Step 5 - After installation

• Restart any license servers (if applicable)
• Re-build any pre-existing Workbench Projects
• Click here for Wind River Linux Platforms 2.0.2 Release Notes, from SP-2. This document contains valuable information up through SP-2. The installation and configuration information is still applicable to this current SP-4 and can be found in Sections 1.5 and 2.2.

Step 6 - Add New Packages to the Package List

• Run:
  • $ make -C build pkg.addpkg
• Or:
  • Create a template and add the names to the pkglist.add file
  • And, include that template in the configure line with the --with-template option.

 These Instructions Apply to the Pre-Built Binary Files

To install the prebuilt binaries complete the following steps:

1. Download the patch(es) to the [install_dir]/updates directory
2. Unzip the patch(es) inside the [install_dir]/updates directory
3. From the [install_dir]/updates directory, run the command "../maintenance/mtool/mtool_linux"   
4. Follow the instructions for installing the patch(es).
5. Upon install completion the prebuilt binaries that were previously downloaded have been installed and are ready for use.
