General Information
- Wind River Linux 4 update pack 2 adds a pre-integrated, optimized graphics stack built on some of today’s fastest Intel and ARM processors. It includes the first cross-development toolkit for Web 2.0 device design, enablement of popular open source graphics applications, and support for the latest windowing protocols.
- Update pack 2 also delivers

- Update Pack 2 fixes known problems and updates your runtime installation to Wind River Linux 4.2.
- Please download and read these files for more information: wrlx42_install_linux_hosts.txt and wrlx_4.2_changes.txt.
- Starting with Wind River Linux 4 Update Pack 2, all BSPs will be delivered via ESD (Electronic Software Delivery) only, they are no longer available via physical media.

Important Compatibility Information
- Update Packs and Service Packs do not overwrite existing Workbench projects or user files.
- Unless you have purchased new processor support or need to upgrade to Workbench 3.3.x, this Update Pack will install and run using your existing installation keys and license file. There is no need to obtain a new license or to contact a Wind River representative.
Obtaining Wind River Workbench 3.3.1
- Wind River Workbench 3.3.1, DVD-R158451.1-1-01, is not included on this page.

IMPORTANT
- If you intend to use Wind River Workbench with Wind River Linux 4 with Update Pack 2, you must install Wind River Workbench 3.3.1 Previous Wind River Workbench releases are not supported with Wind River Linux 4 with Update Pack 2.
- If you are currently using a Workbench release lower then Workbench 3.3, then your customer license must be updated to replace your older Workbench entitlement with this latest version.
- Click here to request an update, commonly known as: Wind River Workbench 3.3.1.
- If you already have Workbench 3.3 in your product portfolio, then perform the update electronically using the Maintenance Tool described in the INSTALLATION section below.
BSP Installation for Wind River Linux 4
- Wind River Linux BSPs are now installable by electronic software delivery (ESD). For detailed information, see the Wind River Linux Release Notes, 4.2.
- If your maintenance contract is current, follow the instructions in the INSTALLATION section below to retrieve all the BSPs to which you are entitled.

Update Pack FAQs
- An Update Pack adds new features and is an accumulation of patches that have been tested together for compatibility.
- Previously released point patches and cumulative patches that were posted to Wind River Online Support are obsolete as standalone patches if the applicable defect is listed in the DEFECTS or DESCRIPTION sections on this page.
- The highest-version Update Pack includes the cumulative patches from all previous Update Packs and Service Packs.
- The difference between Service Packs and Update Packs is that Update Packs fix defects and add new features, whereas, Service Packs only fix defects. If noted, your Customer License and Product Activation File may need an update to unlock new features added by an Update Pack. If the directions indicate new keys are needed, contact your Wind River representative or request the update online at http://www.windriver.com/support.
- Applying an Update Pack provides more reliability and compatibility than applying point patches.
Wind River Linux 4
This Update Pack is only compatible with Wind River Linux 4 and cannot be applied to or used with any other version of Wind River Linux, i.e., do not apply to Wind River Linux 1.x, 2.x or 3.x installations. Update Packs require installation of the entire Wind River Linux 4 product prior to installing the Update Pack.
Installation Notes
Step 1 - Prepare
- Shut down all product processes, including any license servers.
- If you have altered any Wind River-supplied files in your installation tree (not a recommended practice), archive them manually before installing any updates, as these files may be overwritten during the installation process.
Step 2 - Install
a. Online Update
Launch the installer Maintenance Tool:
- Linux: Go to installDir/maintenance/wrInstaller/x86-linux2 and run wrInstaller.
- At the Choose Installation Type screen, choose Product Updates and click next. Updates to the installer is required.
- The installer will automatically search all available updates and verify your entitlement. (This may take a few minutes.)
- Continue through the installer screen selections, until you get to the Choose Activation Type screen.
- If your existing keys are up-to-date, select Use the existing product activation file.
- If you have ordered new products or received upgrades and have retrieved an updated Product Activation File (PAF), select permanent install key file and point to your new PAF.
- Continue your selections through the installation process and complete by clicking Finish.
NOTE - If you're having connectivity (firewall or network setup) issues, Wind River is introducing a new experimental capability, starting with the Linux 4 Update Pack 2 release, that would allow you to run the wrInstaller on a machine with Internet connectivity by downloading this Update Pack 2 into a convenient location and then installing the content back onto the development machine. Follow these instructions:
- Retrieve the executable from here: Windows Linux
- For Linux, change the permission (example: chmod a+x setup_linux32)
- Launch the executable (example: ./setup_linux32) with the following options:
- Copy the download folder to the other host machine and run setup.
