LIN5-7099 : WRL 5 target installation frozen at "Attempting" step

Created: Oct 14, 2013    Updated: Dec 19, 2017
Resolved Date: Dec 17, 2013
Found In Version: 5.0.1
Fix Version:
Severity: Standard
Applicable for: Wind River Linux 5
Component/s: Userspace

Run the WRL 5 installer (--enable-target-installer=yes) on a target, be sure to include the dev-pkgs, staticdev-pkgs, doc-pkgs and dbg-pkgs packages, then choose to manually select what package to install, and install. Near the end of the install process, you will have the feeling the installation is stuck "attempting" to do something.

The installation is in fact not frozen. Just wait around 30min, the install is continuing in the background.

Steps to Reproduce

Configure and build a platform project:
.../wrlinux-5/wrlinux/configure --enable-board=intel_xeon_core --enable-target-installer=yes --with-layer=wr-installer,wr-toolchain --with-sstate-dir=/local/sstate_dir --enable-kernel=standard --enable-rootfs=glibc_std --with-template=feature/target-toolchain --enable-bootimage=iso --enable-jobs=8 --enable-parallel-pkgbuilds=8 --with-rcpl-version=0007

Burn a USB with 'make usb-image-burn'.
Boot it on a target, let the installer start.
Use default options until "Install extra image features?" is asked; answer "dev-pkgs staticdev-pkgs doc-pkgs dbg-pkgs"
Answer yes to "Would you like to view or modify what will be installed?". This will get you to a new interface where you can select packages individually. Type 'N' (Install packages).
Let the installation run.
After some time, at the "attempting" step, the installation looks frozen (see picture attached). Customer is tempted to claim it crashed. It will stay like this for around 30min, then the installation will suddenly continue.
