Description

most of time when system bootsup following message is printed in syslog and no core file is generated. ps command shows that ntpd service is not running after crash  
 
Nov  26 09:27:25 UCB10 kernel: ntpd[3137]: segfault at 4 ip 47a6dfcb sp bf80b480 error 4 in librt-2.8.so[47a6a000+6000] 

This issue occurs on a common-pc platform.

Workaround

manually start ntpd service by running "service ntpd restart" after system booted.

Steps to Reproduce

1. configure and build a common_pc target.
2. configure the ntp client(edit /etc/ntp.conf and /etc/ntp/step-tickers).
3. chkconfig --add ntpd
4. chkconfig --level 234 ntpd on
5. reboot the target and see the crash message in /var/log/message
Note: can't be reproduced every time
